Camper to Truck Pigtail Modification
The dealer installed a camper electrical pigtail plug at the driver’s side front bed sidewall when I bought my camper. It worked O.K., but it was prone to damage, I often forgot to plug in the camper before lowering the jacks, and the connection would loosen often during transit.

To combat this, I finally bought a longer length of trailer cable and installed it as shown so the camper now plugs into the stock trailer outlet at the bumper.

My first try at supporting the cable is on the right, and didn’t work. It was a plastic conduit strap. I had some stiffer retainers that came with one of those mister hose kits. As you can see, these retainers hold the cable securely, but the screwed connection is still positioned so if I forget to unplug and pull out, the cable will slip the connection with hopefully less damage.

Here is what it looks like when I back the truck in. I don’t have to think about it until after the camper is centered and lowered. Then I plug her in.

The cable was a little extra long, but it stays more secure being wrapped around the hitch. I won’t have to lengthen the cord if I ever get a long bed truck &/or new camper.
